News
• Deming Animal Guardians will be holding their Biannual Members meeting and celebrating out anniversary of 35 years on Saturday, November 21. We will host a no cost buffet luncheon at LaFonda Restaurant at 11:30 with the meeting beginning at 12 noon. There will be will reports on developments at DAGSHIP, Silver Whiskers Resale Boutique and spay/neuter efforts in Luna County. A flyer and other information will follow closer to the event.
• Animal Service Center of Mesilla Valley in Las Cruces is holding a vaccine clinic on Sunday, October 25 for dogs and cats belonging to anyone, from any county. For $10 your pet can receive a Rabies, Distemper, and Parvo vaccinations along with a microchip. For an additional $10 Bordatella vaccinations are also available. • GREAT RECENT NEWS - DAG received an award of $10,000 from the Candis Stern Foundation to fund our work.
(A) - DAG received a $5000 grant from Frost Foundation to support DAGSHIP Rescue's continuing work; this will be applied to our fundraising efforts to raise $50,000 in matching funds.
(B) - Thanks to the generosity of an amazing benefactor, we have started a much needed improvement plan for DAGSHIP Rescue site upgrades. These include upgrades to outside kennels where dogs exercise during the day, fence improvements, metal roofs, wind protection on outside walls, cement kennel floors, improved wind / rain protection and industrial swamp coolers. Our goal is to complete by the end of 2026.
(C) - There were 11 adoptions from the off-site adoption event this past Saturday (09/19/26) at Cato's. This was followed by 3 transfers to Lap Dog Rescue in Albuquerque. Beka, our director, is also addressing the backlog of spays and neuters.
• For the second time within a month, DAG has responded to another Chihuahua hoarding/abuse situation. 13 dogs had been abandoned in a home without food, water or A/C. One was in quite bad shape, but is doing better now. These Chihuahuas are now at DAGSHIP Rescue Center getting care, sunshine, food, comfort and awaiting caring homes. Please spread the word. If anyone is looking for one, or more, adorable small dogs.
• We are taking this opportunity to thank our monthly donors. Donations made up 22% of our income last year and donations are an important part of helping us care for animals. Without our monthly donors, we couldn't do it. Thank you, monthly donors.
• Dona Ana Animal Control recently received 37 Chihuahuas from a local hoarding situation. Unfortunately, due to limited space at the county shelter, some animals would have had to be euthanized. DAGSHIP Rescue stepped up and managed to take in 11 of these pups which arrived at our rescue site on July 25. We'd love for the public to step up and help with the overcrowding at our local county shelter.
